The last issue of Best Evidence in Brief included a review which concluded that family involvement is potentially important in terms of efforts to improve children’s early learning and development.

 Now a new review published by the Nuffield Foundation argues that it is impossible to tell whether programmes designed to improve parental engagement improve achievement for disadvantaged children, because none have been properly evaluated.
Although 68 evaluations met the search criteria, the authors concluded that all were too flawed to be considered high-quality evidence. Common problems included small sample sizes and misuse of statistical techniques.
